Friends School of Portland Parents Association (FSPPA)

Mission
The mission of the FSPPA is to encourage parents' involvement in the school, foster a school community, and support the mission of the school[1].
In support of this mission, the FSPPA will:
- sponsor and organize events to bring the school community together;
- support teachers and staff through appreciation and recognition efforts;
- create a forum for parent volunteers;
- encourage communication among parents, faculty, administration and the Board of Directors; and
- organize fundraising activities to benefit the school.
Note: The FSPPA does not set policy or curriculum for the school and is not a mechanism for raising grievances about the school, the school's policies and procedures, or the administration and faculty.

Co-Clerks
The co-clerks will:
- Serve staggered 2-year terms
- Conduct all meetings in the manner of Friends. In that role, the clerk is responsible for creating the agenda, facilitating the conduct of the meeting, seeing that business is properly presented to the meeting for consideration, and announcing decisions when made.
- Serve on and clerk the Committee of Officers
- Meet regularly with the Head of School and Clerk of the Board to foster communication among parents, faculty, administration and the Board of Directors.
- Along with one other officer, approve any committee expenses up to $300.
Recording Clerk
The Recording Clerk will:
- Serve on the Committee of Officers; and
- Keep and distribute accurate minutes that record the sense of the meeting and show all action taken by the meeting.
Treasurer
The treasurer will:
- Serve on the Committee of Officers;
- Prepare monthly and end-of-school-year treasurer’s reports of FSPPA expenses and income. Present at all FSPPA meetings; and
- Work with school staff to coordinate bill payment and auditing.
Committee of Officers
The role of the Committee of Officers is to oversee/organize all the activities of the FSPPA. It will ensure that each activity supports the mission of the school and is conducted in the manner of Friends.
The Committee of Officers consists of the FSPPA Co-clerks, Recording Clerk and Treasurer.

Nominating Committee
The role of the Nominating Committee is to fill vacant positions within the Committee of Officers and to identify two Parent Representatives to the school’s Board of Directors each year.
The Nominating Committee consists of the following 5 members:
- One parent from the Preschool – Pre-K – Kindergarten;
- One parent from Grades 1-4;
- One parent from grades 5-8;
- One parent at-large; and
- The Head of School or Assistant Head of School.

Parent Representatives
Up to two Parent Representatives are chosen by the Nominating Committee each year to attend meetings of the Board of Directors and report back to the FSPPA.
