Business Manager

Seeking Business Manager for preschool-8th grade independent school for bookkeeping, billing, financial reporting, HR management, with an eye to careful monitoring of construction expenses and capital campaign receipts over the next few years.  Good communication, both written and verbal, a must.  CPA qualifications and non-profit experience desired.

Position begins as soon as possible.

Business Manager

The Business Manager reports to the Head of School. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Use standard accounting and bookkeeping procedures, to keep an accurate continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school and manage the financial operation of the school so that the institution remains financially stable.

  • Prepare a monthly operating statement for the Head of School and the Board of Directors.

  • Provide a monthly report of expenditures for use of each budget center within the school.

  • Monitor capital pledge receipts with Development Coordinator

  • Establish a plan and schedule for the preparation of the annual budget that will permit the setting of the succeeding year’s tuition at a Board of Directors meeting early in the calendar year.

  • Secure of an annual review of the school’s financial records and financial positions.

  • Oversee all financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits program.

  • Provide regular, necessary documentation to bank regarding loans and debt covenants.

  • Track student financial aid applications and present information to the Financial Aid Committee.

  • Provide staff support, in conjunction with the Head of School, to the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.

  • Manage risk at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students in their use of the facilities and to maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school.

  • Assist the Head of School with decisions regarding salaries and benefits for all personnel

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

  • Support the school and its leadership.


35 or 40 hours a week, full benefits.
