Preschool Lead Teacher

We are seeking an experienced early childhood educator to lead our small play- and nature-based preschool classroom beginning in August 2018. The position is full time.  Our program consists of 12-14 three-, four- and five- year olds with a full time lead teacher and full time assistant. The ideal candidate has an advanced degree and significant experience with nature-based and emergent early childhood education.  Patience, enthusiasm, creativity, collaboration and alignment with Quaker tenets and values are key attributes. Comfort with an outdoor-focused curriculum required.

Friends School of Portland is an independent preschool through 8th grade school arising from Quaker faith and practice and built upon long-held standards of exceptional Friends schools. Embracing the Quaker belief in the unique worth of each individual, we seek students from diverse ethnic, economic and family backgrounds. In small, multi-age classes, as well as in after school and summer programs, we nurture children’s unfolding development as curious, creative, and compassionate world citizens. We emphasize high standards for independent thinking and personal integrity. We offer a place-based curriculum with cooperative, hands-on learning in a close community where simplicity, service, stewardship, and peaceful resolution of conflict are practiced every day.
