Tuition Assistance Policy and Procedures Overview

At Friends School of Portland, we are committed to making independent education more affordable for a widely diverse community of people through our recruitment efforts and our financial aid policies. All grants are needs-based and may vary widely. FSP will be using FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment to do the financial aid assessment. Because funds are limited, FSP is able to subsidize only a portion of the total need in most cases. Tuition assistance is granted on an annual basis and new applications must be submitted each year.

For a financial aid application, go to the FACTS link below, then FACTS Hotlinks in the upper left corner, and select "Grant & Aid (applicant)"

To Qualify for Tuition Assistance

  • A student must be currently enrolled or applying for admission the following year in grades 1-8 only
  • There must be a demonstrated need for tuition assistance according to the financial statements required for consideration.
  • If an outstanding balance on current tuition payment exists, tuition assistance will be withheld until the account is settled.
  • Preference is given to currently enrolled families and children of Quaker families.

Tuition Assistance Decisions

Admission and tuition assistance decisions are made separately with one having no bearing on the other. The aid decision is made after the admission decision. A Tuition Assistance Committee makes all decisions regarding tuition assistance in accordance with School policy.

Families are notified of tuition grants by mail and are expected to respond by the stated deadline. If the school has not received a signed award letter by that time, the award may be forfeited. Families may appeal the tuition grant decision by submitting a letter clarifying any relevant change in circumstances or any factors they would like reconsidered. If a family is unable to enroll a child at Friends School of Portland for financial reasons, any deposit received by the school will be refunded to the family if notification is given in a timely manner.
